General Data Protection Regulation and Its Implications for Merchants

Catherine Moore - J.P. Morgan; William Long - Sidley Austin LLP

Presentation

With the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) coming into force across the European Union in May 2018, there will be a requirement on businesses to identify where Personally Identifiable Information (PII) resides and understand their obligations towards managing it. In this presentation, J.P. Morgan and the firm Sidley Austin LLP examine the opportunities and challenges of this extra territorial regulation, the requirements placed on merchants, and the role of data protection officers. A detailed look at new requirements under the GDPR is included, along with suggested actions to comply. The review concludes with recommendations for a project plan and steps to achieve GDPR compliance.
